Our Programs

Lay and religious ministers and scholars who graduate from the Jesuit School are prepared to meet the demands of the rapidly changing Catholic Church. Their competence is ensured through a combination of rigorous academic study, practical experience and personal theological reflection and development.

Today's Church requires leaders who are capable of working with different cultures. At the Jesuit School, students come from more than 40 countries to learn how to minister to various constituencies across the globe. Their education couldn't take place in a more perfect setting--the Jesuit School's location in the San Francisco Bay Area provides students the opportunity to work and study in a diverse, multicultural community.

Our affiliation with the Graduate Theological Union and close proximity to the University of California, Berkeley, offer students and faculty unparalleled academic resources and opportunities for interdenominational study. Through this contact with a unique and diverse group of scholars, members of the Jesuit School community are intellectually stimulated and gain new perspectives on their own spiritual and academic development.

Jesuit School of Theology classroom

"My favorite courses are those in Biblical Studies," says Lilly Scholar and M.A./M.Div. student Ann Naffziger. "These classes bring the Bible alive for me." The ten days she spent in a Guatemalan village for a course (Prophets: Foundation for Ministry in the Global Context) gave Ann's class a chance to wrestle with important cultural and spiritual questions while they worshipped, worked and talked with the villagers of San Lucas Tolimàn.
